          strong and flexible

          . Tight muscles aren’t functioning muscles and Pilates teaches how to both lengthen and strengthen these areas so they can work the way they’re meant to.

          What’s Really Holding Moms Back from Starting

          When moms ask me how to start Pilates at home, the question is rarely about the exercises. It’s about uncertainty and guilt.

          The biggest mistake I see is trying to piece together Pilates from random free videos online.

          There are good free workouts out there. But when anyone can upload a video, claim certification, and label it Pilates, it becomes incredibly hard to know what’s safe, effective, or even truly Pilates.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If you were learning something new in real life, you’d want guidance from someone qualified, experienced, and trustworthy. Pilates is no different.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So look for an instructor who:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Has taught in-person for several years

           Knows how to cue clearly and compassionately

          As a certified Pilates instructor who’s been practicing for decades and teaching moms for over ten years, here’s what I can tell you with complete honesty:

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          You don’t need to do Pilates every day to see real results. You do need to do it consistently, in a way that fits your life.
         &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Let’s break that down.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          What Most Moms Expect vs. What Pilates Actually Does
          &#xD;

          Over the years, I’ve noticed moms usually come into Pilates with one of two mindsets.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The first is the influencer effect: the belief that Pilates will magically transform their body to look like what they see online. Pilates can absolutely tone, shape, and change your physique over time but it’s important to understand that Pilates alone is not a weight-loss program. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The second mindset is more tender. It’s the feeling of being “too far gone,” too out of shape, or too disconnected from who you want to be. This is the one that deserves the most compassion.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          What Pilates truly does, without sounding dramatic, is change your relationship with your body. It’s a full mind-body practice that forces you to tune-in. You learn where strength actually comes from. And when you understand your body, confidence tends to follow.

          What “Results” Really Mean in Pilates

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Results are not one-size-fits-all.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          For some moms, results mean visible muscle tone or defined abs, which can absolutely happen, especially when paired with supportive nutrition.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          For others, results mean:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Being pain-free
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Standing taller
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Playing with their kids longer without needing a break
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Feeling mentally calmer and more regulated
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Because Pilates is so internally focused, mental shifts often happen first. And when we feel better mentally, our bodies tend to show up better physically too.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The Minimum Frequency to See Results
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If we’re talking bare minimum, I recommend Pilates 1-2x per week.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           These do not need to be long workouts. Even
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          20 minutes can
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           have a meaningful impact when done consistently. Twice a week is enough to build deep stabilizing strength that often makes moms feel like a completely new person.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           That said, Pilates shouldn’t be the only form of movement we do forever, especially as women age. As we get closer to pre- and post-menopause, bone density becomes increasingly important. That’s why I also incorporate

          What Changes at Different Frequencies

          Here’s what I consistently see in my clients:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           1x per week
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           : Moms often report feeling more mentally present and grounded in daily life.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           2–3x per week:
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
            Strength improves noticeably, especially in the core. Connection to the body deepens.
           &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           4+ times per week
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           : Energy increases, and physical changes tend to appear more quickly.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           But here’s the key part:
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          there will be weeks where none of this goes as planned
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          . Kids get sick. Life gets busy. Schedules fall apart. That’s normal and it does not cancel out your progress.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Real Results From Real Moms
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Consistency will take you much farther than intensity ever will.

          Honestly? Most of the time, they don’t matter.

          When I was getting certified, we used to say, “There’s Pilates strong, and then there’s mat Pilates strong.”And it’s true, the mat asks more of you because there is absolutely nothing to help you except your mind and your strength. It is humbling, effective, and incredibly empowering.

          My Own Shift to At-Home Pilates (and Why I Never Looked Back)

          Let’s be honest about the real challenges:

    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Not knowing where to start.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
